This gripping educational film explores the connection between concussion and suicidal depression – a little known medical condition called Post Concussion Syndrome (PCS).
PCS is possibly the most under-diagnosed, yet widespread condition affecting young people today. It masks itself by appearing as many other symptoms including the inability to learn, abuse of drugs and alcohol and loss of motivation or joy.
In the “Hidden Epidemic” medical experts discuss the nature of Post Concussion Syndrome, while pro athletes Matt Hasselbeck and Johnny Damon describe their experiences with PCS. Harvard’s Chris Nowinski, author of “Head Games: Football’s Concussion Crisis” tells his story, including the death of a teammate on the field after a second concussion.
Woven throughout the film is a dramatization featuring actress Dalenna Thomas. Her performance is especially touching and realistic because she experienced a concussion in high school and like so many others, became depressed which led to suicidal thoughts.
